Visas & Accomodation


All travel arrangements and visa processes for foreign and domestic delegates will be handled by the conference’s Delegate Affairs team.

All international participants* are required to get a Chinese Tourist (L) visa at least two weeks prior to the conference. Documents required to apply for a Chinese visa include:

  • A passport with at least 6 months remaining validity and available blank pages,
  • One accurately completed Visa Application Form (must be typed not handwritten)
  • A recent passport-size colour photo with white background
  • Documents showing the itinerary including round trip air ticket booking record and proof of hotel reservations OR invitation letter** issued by NYU Shanghai which will require:
    • The applicant’s information (Name, Gender, Date of Birth)
    • Passport Number
    • Passport Expiration Date
    • Date of Arrival and Departure

*Special Countries: Citizens of Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Cambodia, Ghana, Guyana Iraq, Ivory Coast, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Lebanon, Liberia, Malawi, Nigeria, Pakistan, Slovakia, Sri Lanka, Tajikistan, and Timor-Leste need an invitation letter from the Chinese government.

**All international participants will be receiving an official invitation letter from NYU Shanghai inviting them to China for the conference. Applicants need around one to two weeks to get the visa, and all applicants are encouraged to apply as soon as they receive their documents from NYUSHMUNC.

Visa Waiver Program: Citizens of Japan, Singapore, and Brunei can stay in China for no more than 15 days due to a visa waiver program.

DISCLAIMER: While NYU Shanghai can assist students throughout the visa process, no guarantees regarding visa acceptance can be given. Each visa application is evaluated by the Chinese government on a case-by-case basis, and applicants may have to submit extra documents depending on their passport and country of application. Applicants are strongly advise to purchase refundable flight tickets in case of visa delay or denial.
